WORST. COMIC. PODCAST. EVER!

May 20, 2020

Last night as news was breaking of one CW star leaving Gotham City, a new shining star took her place on the CW stage of heroes. A new shining Stargirl!

Stargirl is based on the 2000 DC series Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E., about teenager Courtney Whitmore, who moves with her family to Blue Valley, Nebraska, where she becomes a superhero after finding a cosmic rod in her step-father's garage. Once she overcomes the learning curve for becoming a hero, like managing a secret identity and getting to class on time, Stargirl earns her spot as a valued member of the Justice Society of America.

We take a look at the 2000 series, which can be found on the DC Universe app or in a new Stargirl trade paperback available today. Wait, did we just say it's available today? Yes, that's right, the stores are back open as new books resume shipping this week.

With the return of new books, we go back to our regular habit of choosing new books each week with our Pick 3 selections. This week we choose between one DC book, one Image book, and one independent book. Can you match up the publisher with the podcaster before you listen?

Speaking of new books, as the shipping schedule resumes, it turns out some books will not be returning to bookshelves. DC and Marvel have announced plans to finish up some series as digital-only books. We discuss the pros and cons of the decision.

We also have updates on our #My500ComicGoal challenge. Jerry is getting closer to the goalline, but John is speeding ahead towards 1000 books.

We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjoy the show.
